  • Sahabzade Yaseen Ali Khan was a tire merchant and entrepreneur in Rajasthan. He is better known as the father of the late Bollywood icon Irrfan Khan.
  • Hailing from one of the backward districts of Rajasthan, named Tonk, Yaseen Ali Khan was born in 1919.
  • With regard to his ethnic background, he was a Pashtun or Pathan.
  • His ancestors, according to our research, belong either to Pakistan or Afghanistan, where a substantial majority of Pashtuns live. As a matter of fact, a major proportion of the Pathans are Sunnis, approximately 87-90%.

  • Irrfan Khan’s father, Sahabzade Yaseen Ali Khan got married to Saeeda Begum in 1945. Saeeda Begum hailed from an Hakim family of Jaipur. She was a lady of philosophical nature and a liberal mindset as opposed to her husband.
  • The couple had three sons – Irrfan Khan, Salman Khan, Imran Khan, and a daughter – Rukhsana Begum.
  • The father of four also used to offer Namaz, also called Salah, five times a day – Fajr, Zuhar (Duhr), Asar, Maghrib, and Isha – as in the holy scripture Quran, worshipping Allah is the basic purpose of human life. This ritual is over 1500 years old.
  • Yaseen Ali believed that the word “Namaz” binds each Muslim on this planet to Allah, forming an interconnected chain or thread. As mandated, he used to perform the ablution (Wudu) also before offering the prayers. Simply put, Wudu is cleaning or washing body parts, including hand, feet, mouth, nostrils, and head before Namaz.
  • Irrfan Khan’s beloved father used to say that offering Namaz had several benefits such as spiritual, religious, physical, psychological, social, among others. The ritual of offering “Salah” also unites one’s mind, body, and soul.
  • Being a Muslim, Yaseen Ali Khan was a non-vegetarian. On the contrary, his son Irrfan Khan was a vegetarian, despite belonging to Pashtun background who are primarily meat-eaters.
  • You’ll be surprised to know that once Irrfan Khan was called a “Brahmin” born in a Pathan family, by his dad due to his son’s preference for vegan diets.

  • According to our in-depth research, we also found that Saeeda Begum’s husband loved hunting as his pastime activity. However, Saeeda Begum and Irrfan Khan, in particular, were against the habit of killing voiceless creatures. Irrfan Khan believed that killing unarmed and helpless animals is not morally justifiable.
  • During an interview, Irrfan Khan once disclosed that some conflicts between his mom and dad occurred due to the contradiction of their perspectives on hunting! In general, Irrfan Khan’s dad’s conservative nature was often found to be in conflict with the trend of modernism.
  • Compulsory at least once in a lifetime for the adult followers of the monotheistic religion of Islam, Yaseen Ali also undertook Hajj Yatra several times. Hajj Yatra, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a sacred pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Not only this journey provides a chance for self-renewal but it also purifies the human soul.
  • Another pillar, Sahabzade Yaseen Ali Khan had faith, is “Zakat” – a practice of giving a donation to the needy ones. The Pashtun man believed that Zakat was neither a charity nor a tax, rather it was an obligation upon every Muslim to help the underprivileged section of the society. Following the same, Irrfan Khan’s father utilized a significant proportion of his wealth to ease the suffering of the local people.
  • Sahabzade Yaseen Ali Khan died reportedly in 1987 owing to deadly cancer. At the time of death, his age was 68 years. Later, his wife had to bring her four kids up single-handedly, facing the societal and financial odds in her life.
  • And Yaseen’s spouse, Saeeda Begum also passed away in Jaipur in April 2020. Her final rites were performed at Jaipur’s Chungi Naka graveyard. She succumbed to age-related disorders and chronic illnesses. According to our research, Saeeda Begum was residing at the city’s Beniwal Kanta Krishna Colony.
  • Unfortunately, their oldest son, Irrfan Khan’s untimely death also made the entire country stunned. One of the most celebrated actors, Irrfan Khan left for heavenly abode on 29th April 2020.
  • It is worth mentioning here that Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor and colon infection.   • Sahabzade’s daughter-in-law or Irrfan Khan’s wife, Sutapa Sikdar is a renowned film producer. She worked as a screenplay writer as well for several TV shows and movies, including Banegi Apni Baat, Khamoshi: The Musical, Alvida, Supari, Kahaani, Madaari and Qarib Qarib Singlle, among others. The couple met at the National School Drama, Delhi.
  • Yaseen Ali’s grandsons, from the pair of Irrfan Khan and Sutapa Sikdar, are Ayan Khan and Babil Khan.
  • Mumbai-born Babil Khan is currently studying at a university in the United Kingdom. Yaseen’s grandson takes a keen interest in photography and he even worked as a camera assistant in a Bollywood movie. While 19-year-old Ayan Khan, the youngest member of the family, is also an aspiring actor. Having worked in movies, including Life in A Metro, and Life of Pi, Ayan Khan has maintained his family’s legacy with utmost diligence.
  • Rukhsana Begum, the only daughter of Yaseen Ali Khan, is living a happy married life with her husband, according to sources.
